A Love Story
Challenge: When Mary, a young mother of two children, had to leave an abusive living situation in an emergency, she moved into a low-income apartment with nothing but a mattress, a kitchen table and chairs. She was working hard to pay the landlord for the security deposit when her car broke down. Needing to repair the car in order to get to her job, Mary found herself unable to keep up with unexpected, additional bills. When Mary called the local LoveINC affiliate, she had run out of answers.
Response: Through LoveINC, Christians from 3 local churches rallied around this young family. Their community service ministries supplied groceries, household supplies, furniture, and toys. Another local organization contributed gift certificates for the children. Mary met Susan, a trained personal minister, who came along side her and helped her meet the on-going challenges of her life. Through her relationship with Susan, Mary was led to budgeting and parenting classes provided at two of the local churches. Susan also helped connect Mary with an after-school program at a third church so her children were no longer on their own after school. Mary knew they were safe there and was grateful for the tutoring they received.
Impact: Because of the love shown Mary by caring people during a season of need, her family’s lives were transformed. Mary regularly shares her story with others of how she and her children were touched by the love of God and care of others.
Note: Mary hasn’t called yet but God knows she will soon. Will we be there for her?
